New plan to expand Australia's EV charging network

Australia's electric vehicle charging infrastructure is set to get a boost, with the Australian-based Evie Networks planning to link major capital cities with a network of 42 ultra-fast charge stations. The proposal includes a network of 80 individual charge points linking Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide, and will also include stations near Perth. Should it get off the ground, the company claims the network would be Australia's largest of ultra-fast charge sites.

$15 million high-speed charge network coming to Australian interstate highways

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and Chargefox have today announced the first brand-agnostic high-speed charge network for electric vehicles Down Under. Renewable energy will be used to power all 21 stations, which will link Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Stations will also be set up north and south of Perth. Stations will be no more than 200km apart, and will support the full range of electric vehicles on sale in Australia at the moment.

Mercedes-Benz is putting autonomous technology through testing in Aussie conditions, to better understand some of the quirks of our roads. Along with more information about the flashing, variable-speed signs becoming prevalent on our highways, the test route – from Sydney to Melbourne, via Canberra and Albury – will also look to hone the way self-driving systems deal with wombats, koalas, emus and kangaroos crossing the road.

Geely MPV spied in Melbourne after concept debut

The Geely 'MPV' has been spied in Melbourne this week, following its reveal in concept form at the Shanghai motor show. Dressed in heavy camouflage and wearing a "left-hand drive" sticker on its rump, the development vehicle was spotted by a CarAdvice reader just a week after it made its global premiere - hinting that the production version is a lot closer than originally thought.
