Victorian teenager charged after damaging speed camera car
Authorities said the young offender is expected to appear at children's court at a later date to face charges.
Victoria Police have charged a 15-year-old boy after allegedly damaging a traffic camera car in South Morang – a Victorian suburb approximately 23km north-east of Melbourne.
According to police, the teen reportedly approached the vehicle and kicked the side mirror before running away on foot – with the incident believed to have occurred on Findon Road on 27 January 2024.
Authorities say the female worker inside the car was not injured during the altercation.
Police executed a search warrant on 1 February 2024 at an address in Kalkallo in Melbourne's north, with the boy expected to face charges at a children’s court in the future.
While authorities have not specified the penalties associated with the offence, the Victoria Road Safety Act explicitly states: "A person must not obstruct, hinder, threaten, abuse or intimidate a person who is operating a road safety camera or detector," – while anyone found to be in violation of this law can be charged a maximum fine of $11,538.
