Waymo to produce autonomous cars in Detroit

Waymo has announced it will lease space at American Axle & Manufacturing's Holbrook Avenue factory, which was last used for axle production in 2012. "We've found the perfect facility in Detroit," John Krafcik, Waymo's CEO, told Automotive News. "We will partner with American Axle & Manufacturing to repurpose the existing facility, bringing a work force back to an area where jobs in the automotive industry were recently lost."

Waymo not at fault in Arizona accident

Waymo, self-driving research arm for Google, has been involved in the second major self-driving accident to hit Arizona in a matter of months – but the computer wasn't at fault. According to local police, the self-driving Chrysler was operating in autonomous mode when the accident occurred, while Waymo claims the car was under human control. Regardless of who was in command, the Waymo-branded Pacifica wasn't responsible for the incident.

Napping driver leads Google to end level-three Autonomous development

Waymo, autonomous vehicle technology division at Google, has admitted it stopped developing self-driving technology requiring human intervention a few years years ago. John Krafcik, Waymo's CEO, told Reuters and other outlets that five years ago, the division was developing assisted driving technology as a quick route to market.

Google's autonomous cars getting safer

Google's self-driving offshoot Waymo is a step closer to making fully-autonomous vehicles a mainstream reality, according to a new government report released this week. California's Department of Motor Vehicles has released its annual autonomous vehicles disengagement report, which details the number of times human drivers were forced to take control back from driverless vehicles during testing on public roads.
