2022 Subaru WRX imagined as new spy photos surface

Subaru's next WRX is, slowly but surely, taking shape. Due for a likely 2021 unveiling, official details are trying our patience here at CarAdvice, so we tasked auto artist Theophilus Chin to render his take on the final product. In reality, the styling of the 2021 Subaru WRX is no real mystery, with the Japanese car maker having dropped plenty of hints, starting with the Viziv Performance STI Concept in January 2018.

2019 Subaru WRX STI S209 unveiled

The limited-edition Subaru WRX STI S209 has made its debut at the 2019 Detroit motor show. Under the bonnet is a revised version of the company's EJ25 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engine. With its HKS turbo, the engine now has an estimated 254kW of power. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, as is all-wheel drive, front and rear limited-slip differentials, active torque vectoring, and a driver-controlled centre differential.

Subaru WRX STI Diamond Edition revealed for South Africa

Subaru South Africa has announced the WRX STI Diamond Edition to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Subaru Technica International (STI). Developed by the South African division, the Diamond Edition is the most powerful version of the WRX STI offered globally, retuned to deliver a meaty 349hp (260kW) and 342lb-ft (464Nm). Subaru claims the Diamond Edition will hit 100km/h in 5.03 seconds (compared to 5.76 seconds in the standard car), on its way to a top speed of 255km/h.

Subaru WRX STI S208 unveiled in Tokyo

Subaru has unveiled the limited-edition WRX STI S208 at the Tokyo motor show. The car follows in the footsteps of the S207 launched in 2015, with slew of performance and handling upgrades designed to take the standard WRX STI to another level. Exterior changes are headlined by a mesh grille with red highlights at the front, sitting above an angry-looking splitter finished in gloss black.

2018 Subaru WRX, WRX STI pricing and specs: Tweaked looks, more kit

The newly updated 2018 Subaru WRX and 2018 Subaru WRX STI are now on sale in Australia, following the overseas unveiling of American- and Japanese-market models. As expected, both models are rolling into Australia with a significant number of upgrades, moving the twins on neatly since their 2014 Australian launch and 2015 equipment update. A new spec.R model has also been added at the top of the range.
