Porsche Taycan sets four-door EV Nurburgring record

The upcoming Porsche Taycan has set another very specific record, laying down a new marker for four-door electric vehicles around the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Although there's not technically a heap of competition for the Taycan when it comes to its Nordschleife record – Tesla hasn't set an official time with the Model 3 Performance – the car's 7:42.00 time does represent the completion of an important goal for Porsche's engineering team.

Porsche explains how to pronounce Taycan - video

Porsche has dropped the Mission E moniker for its first electric vehicle, and replaced it with Taycan. Shorter, sure, but much trickier to pronounce. To that end, the brand has released a new video explaining how to correctly address the four-door, four-seat EV. Roughly translated, it means 'lively young horse' – a reference to the rearing horse in the Porsche crest. Check out the video below for the official language lesson.

Porsche: Mission E will 'redefine' high-performance electric cars

Porsche AG CEO, Oliver Blume, says the upcoming Mission E will "redefine" the world of performance electric vehicles. In an interview published through Porsche channels after the brand's 2017 Sustainability Report was released, Blume highlighted the four-seat, dual-motor electric car's green credentials, and talked up its performance. "Well over a year ago, we switched all our plants to 100% natural electricity sources, which underlines how seriously we take sustainability," Blume said.

Porsche previews Mission E with Cayman e-volution and Turbo Charging system

Porsche has used the Electric Vehicle Symposium in Stuttgart to provide a peek at its electric future. Along with the one-off Cayman e-volution concept, the company unveiled an 800-volt fast charging system. When it announced plans to produce the Mission E, Porsche claimed owners would be able to charge their cars to 80 per cent in just 15 minutes using an in-house fast charger. The new ‘Porsche Turbo Charging’ system looks set to make good on that promise.
