Chevrolet Camaro to take on revamped Mustang in 2022 V8 Supercars season

The once classic Holden versus Ford battle is entering its next chapter, as Chevrolet steps into void with the Camaro joining the Supercars Championship grid for the 2022 season. The Chevrolet Camaro will face off against a new-look Ford Mustang, which will be adapted to suit a new 'Gen3' control chassis. Gen3 will "place a greater emphasis on retaining key dimensions between the race cars and the road vehicles they represent", according to the Supercars website.

Chevrolet Camaro future up in the air

Reports from the USA claim the next-generation Chevrolet Camaro due in 2023 has been put on hold to prioritise utes, SUVs and the rollout of electric cars. However, the iconic muscle car is understood to be safe for the remainder of its current model life – including in Australia, where it is converted to right-hand drive and sold locally by Holden Special Vehicles.

Chevrolet Camaro eCOPO: Electric drag racer unveiled

Developed in conjunction with Hancock and Lane Racing, a team specialising electric drag racing, the Chevrolet Camaro eCOPO concept has an electric motor making over 522kW (700hp) of power, and 813Nm of torque. Chevrolet estimates the eCOPO can blast through the quarter mile (400m) in around 9.0 seconds, although the company admits testing is still ongoing.

HSV has announced pricing and specs for its hotly-anticipated, right-hand drive converted take on the Chevrolet Camaro 2SS. First up, the burning question of money.
