Lexus Australia introduces capped-price servicing

Liam Murphy • Toyota’s luxury division Lexus has introduced capped-price servicing for its Australian customers. The option comes more than 11 years after Lexus’ parent company Toyota introduced capped-price servicing to the Australian market in 2008. Available on all Lexus models delivered from January 1, 2020, the initiative is an expansion of the brand’s Encore Owner Benefits Program.

Seat boss steps down, rumoured to become new Renault CEO

Overnight, Seat announced its boss, Luca de Meo, was leaving his post at "his own request and in common agreement with the Volkswagen Group". Interestingly, he will remain with the Volkswagen Group "until further notice". Carsten Isensee, Seat's finance chief, will temporarily take charge of the Spanish car maker. Reports in the European press before the Christmas break suggested de Meo was the leading candidate to become the next CEO of Renault.

2020 Porsche 911 Belgian Legend Edition unveiled

The Porsche 911 Belgian Legend Edition was unveiled on New Year's Day to mark Jacky Ickx's 75th birthday. Designed by Porsche Exclusiv and based on the current 911 Carrera 4S, the Belgian Legend Edition has updated styling based on Ickx's blue and white helmet. The car is painted an exclusive shade of dark blue titled "X Blue". The 20- and 21-inch alloy wheel combo is also finished in the same colour with white laser engraved accents.

VFACTS: 2019 new car sales results

Australia’s 2019 new car sales tally finished up almost 8 per cent down on the previous year, making it the worst since 2011. Self-reported Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries data counted 1,062,867 new vehicles sold. That is more than 90,000 fewer than 2018’s tally. Each state and territory went backwards, by a minimum of 2.3 per cent (Tasmania) to 16 per cent (Northern Territory). Buyers in New South Wales and Victoria, combined, purchased 60,000 fewer new cars than they did in 2018.
