However, buyers also have the option of a lower JCW Pure trim level which sacrifices adaptive suspension, 19-inch light-alloy wheels with run-flat tyres, a head-up display, sports seats in carbon black and a Harmon Kardon sound system with amplifier, but costs $5903 less and receives the same powertrain.
The Countryman's refreshed exterior features a redesigned honeycomb grille with black surrounds on Cooper S trim levels and above, plus new, sportier front and rear bumper designs and updated graphics for the signature Union Jack tail lights.
Inside, there's a new 5.5-inch digital instrument display, which joins the 8.8-inch infotainment screen and offers expanded Mini Connected services in line with the brand's smartphone app.
As the largest offering in Mini's line-up, the Countryman offers 405 litres of cargo space, or up to 1275 litres with the rear seats folded.
The base Cooper Countryman is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 100kW/220Nm and paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, with Mini promising claimed combined fuel consumption of 6.3 litres per 100 kilometres.
The Cooper S Countryman receives a 141kW/280Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine with seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and quoted fuel use of 6.7L/100km.
Meanwhile, the Hybrid Countryman pairs a 100kW/220Nm 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with a six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission, mated to a 65kW/165Nm electric motor and offering all-wheel drive. Claimed fuel consumption is 2.4L/100km and combined outputs are 165kW/385Nm.
Finally, JCW variants receive a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine capable of 225kW and 450Nm with an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifts and all-wheel drive.
The JCW Countryman can complete the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.1 seconds and claimed fuel consumption is 7.6L/100km.
The updated Mini Countryman range lands in Australian showrooms in October 2020.
