Lexus trademarks LBX model name in Europe
The Japanese manufacturer has not commented on the trademark application, but could it be for a Lexus variant of the Toyota Yaris Cross?
Lexus has recently filed trademark applications for the model name 'LBX', however it remains unclear what Toyota's luxury division intends to do with it.
These applications were initially filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office on August 5, 2020.
Lexus subsequently filed the same paperwork in Israel and Switzerland.
The letter X has traditionally denoted SUVs in the Lexus range.
Website Motor1.com has suggested a potential Lexus variant of the Toyota Yaris Cross SUV could be known as the BX, and the prefix would therefore sit below the UX range in the line-up.
The Toyota Yaris Cross is primarily targeted at the European and Asian markets. The regions where trademark applications have been filed appear to be compatible with this theory.
The Toyota city SUV is expected to be launched in Australia later this year, and will be offered with a 1.5-litre petrol or hybrid powertrain locally.
CarAdvice has contact Lexus Australia for comment regarding the LBX name. This story will be updated with their response.
