A pair of American powerhouses walk into a drag strip... They're both very different, but it's a closer race than you might have expected.

They're both yellow, they're both American and they're both very, very fast. But the Dodge Demon and Ford GT are completely different vehicles, with completely different mission statements.

Where the Ford GT is derived from racing, with a carbon-fibre tub and a twin-turbo V6 engine making 470kW and 731Nm, the Demon is a street car adapted for life on the drag strip.

It's certainly no slouch, though, with 626kW and 1044Nm from its supercharged V8 engine. In fact, the Demon is the most powerful V8 production car ever built.

Given its singular focus, and the dizzying number of on-board systems helping the driver shave tenths from the quarter-mile time, the Demon should walk into this half-mile race as favourite. Don't count the GT out, though...
