Lexus outsells Mercedes-Benz in the U.S.

May was an outstanding month for Lexus in the United States with sales up by 31 percent over the corresponding period in 2009, in what is currently a booming U.S. car market.

Lexus have already sold over 90,000 cars this year, while May sales alone were 22,216.

That’s enough to put the brand on top of the prestige charts, ahead of Mercedes-Benz and BMW who reported sales of 19,184 and 17,859 respectively.

Audi sales were a distant fourth for the month with 9, 205 cars sold although, that makes it the most successful month ever for the fledgling German brand in the U.S.

Despite the fact that BMW came home in the third place, as far as May sales were concerned, their overall sales actually fell three precent. That decline was said to be because of the run out of the soon to be replaced 5-Series.
