Based on the Volvo V60, V70, XC60 and XC70 models, the Volvo Ocean Race Edition will be sold in Sweden, Italy, Great Britain and Germany, as well as countries that are involved in the race (Spain, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, China, New Zealand, Brazil, USA, Portugal, France and Ireland).
Volvo Cars’ Special Vehicles Division has given the vehicles a sail-racing theme, with materials and colours designed to turn your thoughts to the sea and design details inspired by life on board a boat.
Customers can choose between two new colours – Volvo Ocean Blue II and Electric Silver – as well as two leather upholstery options – off-black or soft beige.
All vehicles feature unique aluminium wheels, chrome highlights and Volvo Ocean Race badging. The rear load cover, floor mats and scuff plates display the event’s logo, while the rear luggage compartment features nautical-inspired tie-down ropes.
Volvo Special Vehicles Division President, Lennart Stegland, said there are also some more subtle design elements designed to remind owners of the high seas.
“The aluminium decor is designed in such a way that the pattern looks like a yacht harbour full of sailing boat masts,” Mr Stegland said.“The stitching on the upholstery traces its roots to sail-making. The aluminium detailing on the mats resembles clews. And the design of the unique wheels has been inspired by the movement of the ocean's waves.”
Volvo Ocean Race Edition vehicles can be specified with the full range of engines alternatives available in each specific market.
The 2011 Volvo Ocean Race Edition will arrive in dealerships in June with sales expected to reach 7500.
The Volvo Ocean Race begins on October 29 in Alicante, Spain, and is scheduled to conclude in Galway, Ireland, on July 6, 2012.
