2019 Volvo S60 review: First drive

The all-new Volvo S60 is an excellent thing. It's engaging to drive, offers a beautiful interior with plenty of room, but it's let down by firm suspension and fidgety brakes on the high-performance S60 T8 Twin Engine Polestar Engineered. But, keep in mind that Volvo will offer the S60 featuring air suspension with adaptive dampers, which will likely solve the ride issues...

Volvo XC40 v Mazda CX-5: Size and value!

One's a pricey small premium SUV, the other a volume-selling mid-sized SUV. One is focused on clever packaging and its all-new design, the other on its size, value and driving fun. But most of all: one is a bit of an unknown, and the other is one of Australia's most popular cars. So which should you be considering? Read on.

2018 Volvo XC60 D5 R-Design review

See the full article here I want one. That’s the overwhelming thought that has stuck in my mind after driving the 2018 Volvo XC60 D5 R-Design. It’s a big call for the new-generation Volvo XC60, considering what else is available in this market space. There are plenty of accomplished names, like the Mercedes GLC, BMW X3 and Audi Q5...

2018 Volvo XC60 review

Read the full article here. It’s hard to understate the importance of this new-generation 2018 Volvo XC60. It’s the car that replaces the best-seller in the brand’s range, which had its best year of sales in the last year of its production. It is vital, then, that this thing be not only good, but good enough to help boost those sales even further...

2018 Mazda CX-5 v Volvo XC40 comparison

A mainstream mid-sized SUV versus a premium compact sports utility vehicle… Well, who said cross-shopping is always about comparing direct rivals? This comparison between the 2018 Mazda CX-5 Akera and new Volvo XC40 T5 R-Design stems from a CarAdvice reader’s request – yes, we listen to you! – and it throws up some tantalising questions we also wanted to answer...

2018 Audi Q2 v Volvo XC40

From our vantage point, there’s barely a volume carmaker of note without a small crossover SUV – a high-riding hatchback with attitude designed for young up-and-comers and well-funded downsizers in equal measure...

2018 BMW X3 xDrive30i v Volvo XC60 T6 R Design comparison

You’ve got about $80,000 to spend on a mid-sized luxury SUV, but is it best to go the traditional German route or take the alternative Swedish path?

Volvo puts drunk drivers on notice

Volvo will add sensors to detect drunk drivers and distracted drivers, announcing all vehicles on the SPA2 platform will be fitted with advanced driver monitoring technology from the early 2020s. Subaru already has a driver-monitoring camera in the Forester, designed to force owners who take their eyes off the road to pay attention, but Volvo is promising to take things a step further, by using the semi-autonomous systems in its vehicles to take control...

2019 World Car Awards: Top 3 finalists named

The World Car Awards countdown continues at the 2019 Geneva motor show, with the top three finalists in each category announced this week. A jury of 86 journalists narrowed down a pool of 40 new models to 10 finalists last month, now down to three, with the winner to be announced at the New York motor show in April...

Volvo to limit new cars to 180km/h from 2020

Volvo Cars will electronically limit its new vehicles to a top speed of 180km/h from 2020 onwards, as it pushes to make its vehicles safer. The company has a long-held goal of eliminating deaths and serious injuries in its new cars, but now recognises advances in technology and design aren't enough to achieve this target...

2020 Volvo XC90 facelift revealed, new mild hybrid drivetrains announced

The updated Volvo XC90 has been unveiled, and the exterior differences are difficult to spot. The grille insert is now concave and the highlights around the lower air intakes have been modified, but aside from that the only other differences relate to new alloy wheel designs and paint options...

2018 Volvo XC90 D5 Inscription review

After what seemed like an eternity, we’ve got our new car. Two years ago, I started the search for a replacement of our venerable 2007 XC90. The choices that were afforded to us just never lived up to what Lars had provided for us. Yes, the kids called the old Volvo Lars. Things like the Everest, Prado, Patrol and Discovery had been sampled – all coming up short as a replacement in more than one area...

2018 Volvo S90 T5 Momentum review: Californication

At last a Volvo that looks great from any angle, gets stares from bemused drivers trying to figure out what this huge saloon really is, and elicits nodding approval from friends who get in the back seat to find a Grand Ballroom sized lounge area! Firstly, I didn't buy the car. It was an upgrade from SIXT after the brand new 3,000 mile Cadillac broke down (yawn!)...

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Luxury Cross Country review

I bought this car in January 2016 for around-town duties with the kids, as well as the occasional drive to/from work, which meant driving along a long, winding road in NSW’s Southern Highlands (Bowral to Nowra via Kangaroo Valley for those that know it). Because of the kids, I needed the safest car I could afford. Because of the location and roads, I needed AWD...

2011 Volvo S60 T5 review

It is totally a coincidence when buying this 2011 Volvo S60 T5 that I used to own an entry-level 2009 Volvo S40 diesel, which came with a leather but uncomfortable seat and Bluetooth only for phone calls. So, when I was looking for a larger car, Volvo wasn’t really on my option list...
