2019 Volvo S60 T5 review

Having already tested the T6 and T8 variants, we were keen to sample the entry level, price leading 2019 Volvo S60 in T5 guise. Trent headed to Sweden to put the big sedan through its paces in its natural environment.

2019 Volvo XC90 long-term review: Introduction

Our latest long-termer is the Volvo XC90, which will really earn its chops when it comes to wrangling the family and work duties over the weekdays and weekends. We’ll be putting the XC90 into a few different sets of hands to see what our thoughts are, and see how it really performs.

2019 Volvo XC90 long-termer, first impressions: Interview with Tamsyn Sykes

From time to time at CarAdvice, we’ll invite friends and family to get behind the wheel and tell us how the car performs in their world. (Indeed, that's the mission of our newly launched Community Approved Tester program!) We call it, First Impressions. Tamsyn Sykes, wife to CarAdvice Commercial Director Benn, lives with the Volvo XC90 and shares her initial thoughts on the car...

Range Review: Volvo XC40, XC60, XC90

No Russian-doll design approach here – or ‘bricks’; just three SUVs sharing obvious design DNA while also forging their own distinct styling paths. Bringing these three Volvos together simply reinforces our views from both individual tests and comparisons: this is a formidable line-up with impressive consistency of quality, whether you’re looking at design, materials, safety, or engineering...

2019 Volvo S60 review: First drive

The all-new Volvo S60 is an excellent thing. It's engaging to drive, offers a beautiful interior with plenty of room, but it's let down by firm suspension and fidgety brakes on the high-performance S60 T8 Twin Engine Polestar Engineered. But, keep in mind that Volvo will offer the S60 featuring air suspension with adaptive dampers, which will likely solve the ride issues...

Range Review: 2019 Volvo XC40, XC60, XC90

Volvo Cars registered record sales in 2018, making it Australia’s fastest-growing luxury brand. That was with a showroom comprising 10 vehicles, yet the Swedish brand expects to sell more models in 2019 with just four vehicles after a major culling process. Gone from local (though not most overseas) showrooms are the S90 large sedan, V40 hatchback and its higher-riding twin, the V40 Cross Country...

2018 Mazda CX-5 v Volvo XC40 comparison

A mainstream mid-sized SUV versus a premium compact sports utility vehicle… Well, who said cross-shopping is always about comparing direct rivals? This comparison between the 2018 Mazda CX-5 Akera and new Volvo XC40 T5 R-Design stems from a CarAdvice reader’s request – yes, we listen to you! – and it throws up some tantalising questions we also wanted to answer...

2018 Audi Q2 v Volvo XC40

From our vantage point, there’s barely a volume carmaker of note without a small crossover SUV – a high-riding hatchback with attitude designed for young up-and-comers and well-funded downsizers in equal measure...

Electric vehicle rollout shouldn't depend on government incentives - Polestar COO

Electric cars have been the hot topic in Australia of late – thanks largely to the (mostly incorrect) political debate from both sides of politics that has been taking place. But one manufacturer is of the opinion politics shouldn't really have a role in the phasing-in of the technology of the future...

Volvo V60 Cross Country earmarked for 2020 launch

Volvo Car Australia is planning to bring the new V60 Cross Country Down Under, but we won't see it until at least 2020. Following confirmation of the standard V60 for the Australian market, the local division indicated it's "expecting" the high-riding version of its mid-sized wagon to lob sometime next year, though we're not quite sure exactly when at this stage...

Volvo V60 coming in late 2019

Volvo Car Australia has confirmed the all-new V60 wagon will be joining the local range before the end of the year, shortly after its S60 sedan twin lobs Down Under. At this stage a handful of engine and trim variants will be offered here, including the flagship T8 plug-in hybrid with its powerful 288kW/640Nm petrol-electric drivetrain...

Volvo secures EV 'battery supply for the upcoming decade'

Overnight Volvo Cars inked a long term multi-billion dollar lithium-ion battery supply deal with LG Chem and CATL, an important step in meeting its lofty electrification goals. Last year Volvo said it was aiming to have half of its sales be fully electric cars by 2025, easily trumping its earlier commitments...

2018 Volvo XC90 D5 Inscription review

After what seemed like an eternity, we’ve got our new car. Two years ago, I started the search for a replacement of our venerable 2007 XC90. The choices that were afforded to us just never lived up to what Lars had provided for us. Yes, the kids called the old Volvo Lars. Things like the Everest, Prado, Patrol and Discovery had been sampled – all coming up short as a replacement in more than one area...

2018 Volvo S90 T5 Momentum review: Californication

At last a Volvo that looks great from any angle, gets stares from bemused drivers trying to figure out what this huge saloon really is, and elicits nodding approval from friends who get in the back seat to find a Grand Ballroom sized lounge area! Firstly, I didn't buy the car. It was an upgrade from SIXT after the brand new 3,000 mile Cadillac broke down (yawn!)...

2016 Volvo V40 T5 Luxury Cross Country review

I bought this car in January 2016 for around-town duties with the kids, as well as the occasional drive to/from work, which meant driving along a long, winding road in NSW’s Southern Highlands (Bowral to Nowra via Kangaroo Valley for those that know it). Because of the kids, I needed the safest car I could afford. Because of the location and roads, I needed AWD...

2011 Volvo S60 T5 review

It is totally a coincidence when buying this 2011 Volvo S60 T5 that I used to own an entry-level 2009 Volvo S40 diesel, which came with a leather but uncomfortable seat and Bluetooth only for phone calls. So, when I was looking for a larger car, Volvo wasn’t really on my option list...
