Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR: Local arm keen on new hot hatch

Volkswagen Australia has voiced its interest in a Golf GTI variant to sit atop the local line-up, in the lead-up to the reveal of the GTI TCR at Lake Worthersee on May 9. "We would be keen on such a variant," said Paul Pottinger, general manager for corporate communications at Volkswagen Australia, telling us "the [Golf] GTI and R line-ups are ever-evolving."

The powered-up Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport, which is on its way to Australia as the GTI 40 Years Edition, will soon be outclassed by an even more powerful special. The new limited-edition model will be known as the GTI Clubsport S, and fans will get their first look at the annual Wörthersee GTI-Treffen (“meeting”) in Austria next month.

Volkswagen Golf GTE Sport concept debuts at Worthersee

The Volkswagen Golf GTE Sport concept was unveiled overnight at the annual Worthersee festival in Austria. Under the concept's white, blue and black body is a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that develops a total of 295kW of power and 670Nm of torque. Beneath the bonnet there's a 1.6-litre turbocharged direct-injection engine borrowed from the Polo R WRC. The 1.6-litre engine churns out 220kW of power and 400Nm.

Skoda Rapid Sport concept to debut at Worthersee

The Skoda Rapid Sport concept will make its world premiere at today's Worthersee tuning show in Austria, displaying an aggressive and notably sportier version of the compact sedan. Intended to show off the possibilities of the Skoda Rapid design, the Czech manufacturer's Sport concept is finished in two-tone metallic Steel Grey and Corrida Red with red highlighted again on the 19-inch alloy wheels.
