Subaru Impreza STI, Forester STI concepts heading to Tokyo Auto Salon
…
Subaru has revealed the pair of hotted-up 'STI' concepts it's planning to reveal at the Tokyo Auto Salon next month, in the form of two sporty-styled specials.
The Impreza STI Concept takes the base hatch, and adds a set of custom wheels, some black add-ons to the front bumper and side skirts, central exhaust, and a contrast roof finish. Not exactly groundbreaking stuff, but similar to what we've seen from Mazda with its range of add-ons for the 3.
Subaru of America has revealed a pair of limited editions in the form of the WRX and WRX STI Series.Gray, bringing a unique exterior finish and some equipment enhancements to the all-wheel drive tearaway.
Launched at the 2018 Subaru Tecnica International Boxerfest over the weekend, Series.Gray production is limited to 750 WRX and 250 WRX STI examples – arriving in North American dealers in fall, or the Australian spring.
A spokesman from Subaru’s Japanese parent company says in-house tuner STI may evolve into a performance sub-division in the future to rival Nissan’s Nismo sports arm.
Speaking with CarAdvice at the Geneva motor show, Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) corporate communications spokesman Masato Saito said creating a family of high-performance STI variants positioned at the top of a number of model lines was “a good idea”.
“In the future, [there is] some possibility,” Saito revealed.
