Electric vehicle start-up Rivian and retail giant Amazon have revealed additional information and clay models of their collaboration, an electric van.
Last year, Amazon revealed it was investing US$700 million (A$1.03 billion) in the American EV manufacturer and ordering 100,000 electric delivery vehicles.
Amazon plans to have 10,000 vehicles on the road and in service by 2022, with the other 90,000 operational by 2030.
Last week Amazon co-launched The Climate Pledge, which aims to help the world meet the targets set out in the Paris climate accord 10 years ahead of schedule.
For its part, the e-commerce giant announced an order for 100,000 electric delivery vans from startup American car maker Rivian.
Ford to build to electric car on Rivian platform, invest in company
Ford has confirmed it will be build a new EV on Rivian’s skateboard platform.
No details about the new car have been announced, but given the skateboard platform has been designed for off-road use in Rivian’s R1T pickup truck (below) and R1S Suburban-fighter, it’s likely the Ford EV will be an SUV.
It’s unclear if the new Rivian-based EV will be built at a Ford factory or Rivian’s ex-Mitsubishi facility in Normal, Illinois.
