Porsche to resume 911 GT2 RS production after cargo ship sinks

A sunken cargo ship has forced Porsche to resume production of the GT2 RS, with customers in Brazil left awaiting the delivery of their twin-turbo'd 911 supercars. Although Porsche didn't officially report it initially, a letter from a Brazilian customer published in CarScoops has shed some light on what happened off the coast of France, and what it means for customers.

Schaeffler RS3 takes on supercar elite - video

The Schaeffler 4ePerformance is a wild all-electric concept that shoves four electric motors from a Formula E racer underneath an Audi RS3, and this video shows just how much of a weapon that creates. Posted by Daniel Abt on YouTube, the clip shows the Schaeffler 4eP duke it out with an Audi R8, Lamborghini Huracan and Porsche 911 GT2 RS in a series of drag races – we won't give too much away.

Porsche GT2 RS hits the Nurburgring - video

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS is the most powerful 911 ever built, and carries a pretty serious reputation as a 'widow maker' if you don't treat it with enough respect. It also carries the production car record for the legendary North Loop, having lapped the track in 6:57.3 late last year. As a new owner living in Germany, the first thing we'd do is head to the Nurburgring and see if the reputation is accurate. Turns out, an owner and his GoPro decided to exactly that.

Porsche 911 GT2 RS: Walter Rohrl says mega power figure was the 'biggest challenge' in development

When you have driving masters like Walter Rohrl and Mark Webber involved in the development of a sportscar from the outset, you expect a serious weapon by the time the finished vehicle reaches consumers. In the case of the ballistic new 911 GT2 RS, the fastest and most powerful 911 ever, that is very much the reality. The biggest hurdle in developing the GT2 RS? "First of all, it was how much power we can get," Rohrl told CarAdvice at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS will be the fastest of its breed

A new flagship Porsche 911 GT2 RS model is on its way, and it's going to be quite a piece of work. The all-new version of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS will stay true to the existing formula of being rear-wheel drive, but Porsche CEO Oliver Blume told CarAdvice at the 2017 Geneva motor show the company would be pushing the envelope in terms of power for the new range-topping model. "In the past it was a very famous model of the 911, and maybe in the future we will have a GT2 as well," he said.
