2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC pricing and specs: GLC300e joins range

Mercedes-Benz has announced pricing and specs for its refreshed mid-sized rival to the BMW X3 and Volvo XC60, the GLC, now without diesel power. The new line-up will start with the GLC200, priced at $66,100 before on-roads. Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine making 145kW and 320Nm, up 10kW and 20Nm on its predecessor, sent to the rear wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Unlike regular plug-in hybrid vehicles, there's no internal-combustion engine backing the 13.5kWh battery pack and 50km all-electric range. Instead, the F-Cell relies on a hydrogen fuel-cell good for around 430km.

Mercedes-Benz recalls several models for faulty airbags

Mercedes-Benz Australia has issued a recall for numerous model lines over concerns the airbags could release metal parts in the event of deployment – though the company says it's unrelated to the ongoing Takata recall campaign. The marque reports 78 units across the A-Class, B-Class, C-Class, E-Class, GLA, GLC and AMG GT ranges could be affected by the issue, which could see the airbag gas generator housing eject metal parts if the inflator is deployed.
