A league of their own – the world's most powerful production cars

Although plenty of us won’t get a chance to plough down the Nürburgring or get behind the wheel of a hypercar in our lifetimes, it’s hard to deny our obsession with all things high-performance. The human race has spent decades perfecting 0-100km/h sprint times and figuring out how to generate maximum outputs with minimal weight. As we embark on a new decade of development, it’s safe to say the quest for perfection is far from over.

The 10 most Instagrammed supercars in the world

It could be argued that supercars exist primarily to do two things – go fast and get noticed. To the second point, the UK arm of price comparison site comparethemarket.com has conducted an analysis of just how head-turning certain supercars really are, from Bugatti's Veyron to Koenigsegg's Agera. The insurance experts turned to Instagram, where they looked at the top hashtags associated with various high-performance cars to see which models were mentioned most frequently.

Koenigsegg designer reveals how different the Gemera could have looked

The designer behind the Koenigsegg Gemera has shared fascinating early sketches and 3D renders of the four-seater hybrid "megacar" that wowed the world when it made its debut earlier this month. The $1.7 million (AU$2.56 million) vehicle – which boasts three electric motors – is the first 'Mega-GT' in the world. Only 300 will be produced, with a mere 10 of those making it to the Australian market.

Koenigsegg preparing car capable of doing 0-400km/h in 14s

Koenigsegg, the Swedish hypercar maker, is developing a new car capable of going from 0-250mph (402km/h) in around 14 seconds. In a chat with Top Gear at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, Christian von Koenigsegg described the unveiling of the second-generation Roadster prototype in 2017 as a "kick in the head".

Koenigsegg offers a look at crash testing regime

Watching any crash test is mesmerising, but there's something especially compelling about seeing a Swedish wedge of carbon-fibre meet an unfortunate (but necessary) end. To celebrate its following on social media, Koenigsegg has cut a montage of Regera crash tests. Although it's only a brief video, it's clear the Regera has been through the wringer as a part of its development.
