Audi quits Formula E, will instead return to Le Mans and mount Dakar Rally campaign

Audi has confirmed it will withdraw from the FIA Formula E Championship at the end of the 2020-2021 season, switching its focus instead to a Dakar rally campaign as well as making a return to endurance racing. Audi has been a mainstay of the all-electric single-seater category since its inception in 2014, firstly as a technical partner for the privateer Abt team before taking full control in 2017. Audi has scored 12 race wins in that time, as well as winning the 2017-18 teams’ championship.

Formula E reveals Gen 2 Evo car for 2020

Formula E has updated its Gen 2 racer for its upcoming season, with a range of body add-ons designed to make for a more attractive grid. The EVO will be revealed at the Geneva motor show, and features a new front wing, a new fin behind the driver, and a fresh rear wing. Unlike Formula 1, where teams invest millions developing their own aerodynamics packages, the entire Formula E grid has the same bodywork fitted to their cars.

How much faster have Formula E cars become? - video

Formula E is still in its infancy as a sport. After four years with the same car, it's moving to a new vehicle for season five. Chief among improvements is battery life: at the moment, drivers need to swap cars halfway through a race. Come next season, they'll be able to last the full distance. The cars look meaner, too. To show that, among those improvements, the new cars are much, much faster than before, Formula E has put the Gen 1 and Gen 2 cars side-by-side.
