2021 Hyundai Santa Fe goes hybrid in Europe, and it's on Australia's wish list

The 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe will be available with a choice of three engine choices in Europe – new hybrid and a plug-in hybrid options will be sold alongside the diesel – when the facelifted model goes on sale later this year. And Hyundai Australia has raised its hand for one or both hybrid options to be made available locally, however no plans have been confirmed.

French startup releases a towable range extender for your EV

French company EP Tender has revealed a novel way of extending the range of an electric vehicle (EV), with a tiny trailer filled with batteries. The range-extending trailer houses 60kWh batteries that can add 350 miles (563 kilometres) of range and be charged while driving.

2020 BMW M340i xDrive Touring launches in Europe, still not for Oz

The BMW M340i xDrive Touring has gone on sale in Europe, sporting the same 275kW/500Nm turbocharged inline six as its sedan equivalent – but don't expect it in Australia anytime soon. Compared to its three-box twin (which is now on sale Down Under from $99,900), the M340i xDrive Touring claims to hit 100km/h from a standstill in 4.5 seconds (0.1s slower than the sedan).

Ford Edge dropped in the UK

Ford has decided to limit availability of its Edge SUV in Europe, known here as the Endura, due to slow sales in certain markets and ever-tightening emissions laws. A new report by Automotive News Europe says the Blue Oval's European arm will pull the Edge from markets like the UK – which also happens to be Ford's largest European market – while soldiering on in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Austria, Belgium and Romania.
