Stellantis: Fiat-Chrysler and Peugeot-Citroen merger set for European approval – UPDATE
…
UPDATE, November 10, 2020: Today, the merged Fiat Chrysler and PSA Groupe (Peugeot Citroen) companies have revealed the final version of their Stellantis logo.
In its finished form, the logo adds a dotted starburst device to the A of the Stellantis wordmark revealed in July – reflecting the Latin term 'stello'; "to brighten with stars".
French marque DS will launch its new Chinese-built luxury saloon flagship DS 9 model this year after teasing it all the way back in 2012.
Owned by the PSA Group, DS's luxury saloon will share Peugeot architecture with the comparable wheelbase 5008 model.
This follows on from the DS3 Crossback which borrows a platform from the Peugeot 208 and the Peugeot 3008 GT Hybrid4 that lends its underpinnings to the DS7 Crossback E-Tense 4x4.
General Motors has seven car brands. Volkswagen Group has ten. With the planned merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA, the two companies will have them beat with a combined stable of thirteen brands.
And according to PSA CEO Carlos Tavares, there are no plans to get rid of any of them.
The PSA Group, which currently owns the Peugeot, Citroen, DS, Opel and Vauxhall brands, is open to acquiring a few more marques for its portfolio, and it has the backing of one of its biggest shareholders.
At the recent Geneva motor show, Carlos Tavares, CEO of the PSA Group, said he would "love to [have discussions] with people who are looking for deals".
Jaguar Land Rover and Fiat Chrysler are seen as PSA's most likely partners.
DS, luxury arm of the PSA Group, has teased its upcoming DS3 Crossback in a short social media video ahead of a full reveal later this week.
The new crossover will give the French brand a competitor to the likes of the Audi Q2, and sit below the larger DS7 Crossover in the brand's line-up.
