Video: Classic Corvette cleaned after 34 years with amazing results

If you’re worried you don’t clean your car often enough, fear not.

A car enthusiast in the US has demonstrated what a bucket of soapy water can do to a car that has been covered in dust for more than three decades.

An Ohio-based detailing team in the US unearthed a 1974 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray from a locked garage and cleaned it top to bottom before the car undergoes a full restoration.

The cleaning process is shown on the WD Detailing YouTube channel.

The ‘C3’ Corvette starts off caked in dust and bird droppings, and the interior is infested with a nest of rats and mice. The fibreglass front and rear bumper inserts have disintegrated over the three decades in storage, but the rest of the car is largely complete.

What follows is an oddly satisfying look at how the WD Detailing team approaches each component, from wheels, body, carpets and interior to remove years of dirt, grime and animal gunk.

The clip is narrated to explain some of the processes, methods and tools required to achieve impressive results.

The car's period-correct Dark Brown metallic paint (code 2543) has held up well – and with a little help, the car's 350ci (5.7-litre) V8 chugs into life, albeit with a bit of smoke.

According to the presenters, the Corvette is set for a full rebuild, but we're sure that job will be far easier now the car is far more presentable and has fewer rats.
