Suzuki Alto: next-gen city car spied
CarAdvice's spy photographers have snapped a prototype of the Suzuki Alto successor in Southern Europe.
Captured while strapped to a transporter, the two cars are draped in black camouflage similar to that used to conceal the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross prior to its unveiling.
Sharing the same basic hatch silhouette, the two appear to feature slightly different headlight and tail-light clusters, with the back car’s rear doors the only sheet-metal visible.
The current seventh-generation Suzuki Alto – similar to the Splash, Ritz and Maruti Suzuki A-Star found in other markets – has been on sale since 2009.
Whether the next-gen Alto will gain a new name as part of its development is as yet unclear.
Speculation exists that a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine will again power the new car, with a reduction in weight leading to CO2 emissions of approximately 80g/km – bettering the existing 50kW/90Nm unit by 30g/km.
While it’s still early days, reports suggest the budget city car could debut as early as 2014.
