Korean carmaker SsangYong will unveil a third new take on its XIV concept series in Paris this month, known as the e-XIV.
The new crossover will evolve the look of the recent XIV 2 concept's styling, and power will be drawn from an electric motor backed up by a small petrol engine.
Specifications for the new drivetrain have not been revealed, but we can expect a design similiar to the range-extended electric system in Holden's Volt.
The e-XIV will likely also bring a new take on the interior user interface featured in the previous concepts, which sees all of the cabin's major functions controlled from a single display, including a mobile interface.
In XIV 2 form, the small SUV measures 4166mm long, 1820mm wide and 1566mm tall, with a 2600mm wheelbase.
It remains to be seen if any of the XIV models will reach production, although SsangYong owner Mahindra has hinted at new platforms and engines for the carmaker's future line-up.
“Work on a new platform should be concluded very soon, this will be on the compact side," A Mahindra spokesperson said.
"Right now it's in the styling and customer research stage and still has to clear the business case, to see if it's commercially viable. This will spawn products for both Mahindra and Ssangyong."
SsangYong is expected to flesh out its range with small and light cars, with the bulk of its international line-up consisting of SUVs, a pair of luxury models and a number of commercial vehicles.
