Sir Elton John’s Ferrari Daytona to head to auction

One of the most desired front-engined V12 Ferrari models is going to auction, and it has some special history.

A rare 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona owned by Sir Elton John is set to cross the auction block this weekend.

As well as being owned and driven by the pop superstar, the Daytona has been certified by Ferrari's 'Classiche' department, confirming the chassis and powertrain match the original build data. A comprehensive history file also accompanies the vehicle.

The Daytona is considered to be one of the greatest Ferrari models produced, and is often regarded as one of the finest front-engined V12 production cars ever made.

Power comes from a 4.4-litre V12 producing 259kW and 431Nm, with a 0-100km/h time of under six seconds. For perspective, the most popular new car sold in 1972 was the Volkswagen Beetle, which offered a maximum of 45kW from its optional high-output 1.6-litre engine.

Sir Elton owned the Daytona from 1973 to 1975, and the vehicle is one of only 158 built by Ferrari in right-hand-drive.

Earlier this year, the singer's 2005 Maserati Quattroporte went up for auction, selling for £36,000 (AU$66,300).

The 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona will be auctioned by Silverstone Auctions this Saturday 5 June 2021. To view the auction lot, click here.
