Renault Megane-based protoype spied
It’s a hatchback, it’s a PHEV, it also looks like some sort of SUV…
Photographers have snapped images of an interesting prototype based on the current Renault Megane, raising questions about an upcoming new model based on the French small car.
It’s unclear what exactly this vehicle is, but spotters noted a charging port on the driver’s side, suggesting it could be a plug-in hybrid, along with the obvious wheel arch extensions at all four corners.
There’s also camouflage disguising both the front and rear bumpers, though it doesn’t appear this is the facelifted Megane we’ve seen recently, and a raised ride height.
A possibility is that this is an early development mule for a new model based on the Megane’s underpinnings, which could be offered with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain going by the charging port.
Could Renault be working on yet another crossover? We’re not sure – there’s already the Captur, Kadjar and Koleos.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see. Stay tuned!
