Five months on from the arrival of the all-new 308, Peugeot Australia has now added a range-topping performance variant: the 308 GT.
Two GT models are offered, one petrol and one diesel. While the option of two fuel types gives buyers greater choice, the petrol variant is only available with a manual transmission and the diesel is auto-only.
And with 151kW for the petrol and 133kW for the diesel, the 308 GT lags behind other similarly-priced performance hatchbacks like the Volkswagen Golf GTI, Ford Focus ST and Renault Megane RS.
Mechanical Package
While the 308 GT makes do with 'just' 151kW of power and 285Nm of torque from its turbocharged 1.6 litre four-pot, its twin-scroll turbocharger, variable valve timing, variable intake cam lift and direct-injection tech gives it a broad powerband.
It's enough grunt to take the 308 GT to 100km/h from standstill in 7.5 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 235km/h.
The 308 GT diesel receives a 133kW/400Nm 2.0 litre turbo Diesel engine, capable of hitting 100km/h in 8.4 seconds. Those numbers aren't quite in hot hatch territory, but the GT's performance is definitely 'warm'.
