NSW driver loses licence and vehicle after repeated traffic offences

A 32-year-old New South Wales driver will be without his licence and vehicle after police allegedly detected the motorist violating multiple road laws.

Police claim the man was clocked excessively speeding at 125km/h along a sign-posted 60km/h stretch of road, and recorded a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.099 while testing positive for cocaine during a roadside test.

Authorities apprehended the driver along the City West Link at Haberfield – an inner-city suburb approximately six kilometres west of Sydney – on 29 January 2024.

NSW Police said the offender had his licence suspended and his vehicle registration confiscated – with the incident being handed to local courts to determine the appropriate penalties.

In New South Wales, speeding over 45km/h above a sign-posted speed limit can incur a maximum fine of $3300 and a six-month licence disqualification for light vehicles – while a BAC limit of 0.05 is imposed on all fully licenced drivers.

Any drivers found to record a BAC limit above 0.08 and less than 0.15 can face a maximum court-imposed fine of $2200, nine months imprisonment and a minimum six-month licence disqualification for first-time offenders.

Additionally, drug driving in NSW can incur a maximum $2200 fine if found guilty by a court, as well as loss of licence for three to six months.
