Mark Skaife’s HSV Coupe GTS build #0001 sells for $158,500 – UPDATE
An HSV with proper provenance is heading across the auction block this weekend.
28 May 2022, 5pm: The HSV Coupe GTS sold for $158,500, rising from $115,000 earlier in the day, and $75,000 on Friday night. Our original story continued unchanged below.
28 May 2022, 7am: The very first production HSV Coupe GTS to roll off the line is heading to auction, and could set a new record for the Monaro-based model.
The HSV is being sold by Lloyds Auctioneers, with the Coupe GTS not only laying claim to being build #0001, but also being owned and driven by one of the Red Lion’s most successful touring car drivers of all time.
According to the listing, the Coupe GTS was built for Mark Skaife OAM in his last V8 Supercars championship-winning year, in which he won more than half of the 13 rounds – including the first five races in a row.
The vehicle was powered by a 5.7-litre naturally-aspirated V8 sending 300kW and 510Nm to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission, allowing for a claimed 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.1 seconds.
It’s believed Skaife used the HSV as his personal car for two years, before selling it to the current owner with 28,000km on the clock. Almost two decades later, the vehicle has now travelled less than 38,000km.
Finished in Sting Red, the GTS comes complete with log books, an original unopened compendium kit, posters, an authentication letter from HSV, and an engine cover signed by Skaife.
Bids for the 2002 HSV Coupe GTS currently sit at $115,000, with the lot ending later today, Saturday 28 May. You can view the listing at Lloyds website by clicking here.
