Hyundai i20 N, i30 N hatch orders re-open now, wait times slashed

The Hyundai i20 N and i30 N hot hatchbacks are now available to order again after a pause of up to 14 months – and wait times have tumbled.

Order books have finally re-opened for the Hyundai i20 N and i30 N hot hatchbacks after pauses of seven to 14 months, as production has caught up with the order backlog.

Hyundai Australia has announced the i20 N and i30 N hatch are once again available to order, effective immediately as it "now has sufficient production supply to fulfil existing backorders."

The pause was placed on i20 N orders in July 2022 due to estimated wait times of up to two years, at that time – and for the i30 N hatch in February 2023 due to quoted wait times in excess of 12 months.

Thanks to a boost in production, the company says new customers order will be quoted a wait of "approximately six months" for either hot hatch – which includes the three to four months spent in transport from the factories in Turkey (i20 N) and Czech Republic (i30 N).

Hyundai says its "existing order bank has been gradually reduced over the past year".

A company spokesperson told Drive Hyundai is holding approximately 240 i20 N and 380 i30 N hatch back-orders – down from about 1000 i20 N back-orders when books were closed last year – with most of those vehicles en route to Australia now.

Both vehicles are due to receive an update in the next 12 months – the first facelift for the i20 N early next year, and the second facelift for the i30 N hatch expected sometime next year.

However a successor to the Hyundai i20 N beyond the current generation is yet to be given the green light.

There is not expected to be another Hyundai i30 hatch after this model departs showrooms – expected in 2026 or 2027, based on the timing of new European emissions rules it is not expected to meet.

The Hyundai i30 Sedan N was not affected by the order pause, nor the Kona N – which has now been discontinued entirely.
