Clio RS 18 v Polo GTI drag race – video
It's France v Germany in this latest hot hatch shootout. Who comes out on top?
The all-new Volkswagen Polo GTI has hit the market around the world – including Australia. So how does its performance compare to that of rivals?
South Africa's Cars.co.za decided to pit the new hot Polo against the Renault Clio RS 18 in an old-school drag race this week, posting the video to its YouTube channel.
On paper, the two light hatches are closely matched. The Clio makes 162kW/280Nm from its 1.6-litre turbo, and claims to hit 100km/h from a standstill in 6.6 seconds. Meanwhile, the Volkswagen makes 147kW/320Nm from its larger 2.0-litre turbo, claiming a 0-100 dash in 6.7 seconds.
It's also worth noting that the Polo is around 100kg heavier than its French equivalent.
