Citroen DS3 Electrum: EV plugs into Paris
The all-electric Citroen DS3 Electrum plug-in city car will debut alongside the recently revealed Citroen DS3 Cabrio at next week's 2012 Paris motor show, giving the world its first glimpse of the French brand's newest green machine.
Promising an all-electric propulsion system and innovative design, Citroen says the Citroen DS3-based Electrum’s plug-in technology will deliver performance consistent with the current Citroen DS3 but with the benefit of zero emissions.
The DS3 Electrum’s electric drivetrain is made up of two 65kW motors located on the front axle and a 17.5kWh lithium-ion battery, positioned in a non-intrusive layout that ensures the car maintains all of its cabin and boot space.
With an expected range of up to 120km, the Citroen DS3 Electrum features a charging socket located under its fuel flap allowing for connections to quick charging stations where an 80 per cent charge can be achieved in only 30 minutes.
Citroen says the development of the electric technology makes it possible to "electrify" existing internal-combustion vehicles in the future.
