Carbon Revolution: Geelong wheel maker to gain 500 employees
Government grant helps manufacturer grow its staff and footprint in Geelong.
Carbon Revolution, supplier of lightweight wheels to Ford Performance and Ferrari, will grow its staff and warehouse space in Geelong, as it prepares to ramp up production.
The extra 500 employees will almost triple the brand's workforce, and push its annual production capacity from 10,000 to more than 150,000 wheels. The expansion is worth $100 million, according to the Victorian Labor Government, and will include a 7000m² production plant next to the company's existing facility.
Carbon Revolution is the only company in the world supplying one-piece carbon-fibre wheels to Ford for the Shelby Mustang GT350R, and to the Ferrari for the 488 Pista. The wheels are lighter and more durable than their metal counterparts, and help reduce ugly vibrations on the move.
“When Ford and Alcoa closed their doors, we said we’d be with the proud Geelong community every step of the way and that’s exactly what we’ve done – creating new jobs for hard working families," Daniel Andrews, Victorian Premier, said of the expansion.
“This is yet another massive vote of confidence in Geelong – these are high-tech, secure jobs that will help the local economy continue to prosper.”
The official Government materials say manufacturing in Victoria has grown for 17 consecutive months, with Geelong at its core.
