Around the tracks: A BMW for well-groomed dogs and how to buy your own movie-star trailer

It was his personal trailer during filming for countless blockbuster movies since 1993 and now it's up for sale. Tom Hanks is bidding farewell to his 1992 Model 34 Limited Excella.

The trailer acted as a second home for the Hollywood star travelling to various movie sets around America, including Sleepless in Seattle and The Circle. Hanks requested a custom interior that only included the kitchen and bathroom built in then decked out the entire inside with his own furniture.

The trailer will go to auction with Bonhams during the Quail Lodge Auction in Carmel, California on August 13. The price?Bonhams estimates the trailer will sell for between $150,000 and $250,000.

You may have already heard of the box-shaped Tank 300 launched by Chinese car maker Great Wall Motors. Well now there is a Tank 300 City Edition – “Pick Pink”, says the press release.

The Tank 300 was launched in China earlier this year. Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbo engine with an output of 169kW/387Nm. It is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.

GWM says the Tank City Edition is aimed at a “younger and more fashionable audience.” Let's see how this goes.

Want to really pamper your pooch? BMW Italy has introduced a pet friendly BMW X7 xDrive40d customised by Poldo Dog Couture in Milan.

The travel kit includes a 40-centimetre seat belt in leather and Vienna straw to secure the dog to the seat when traveling in the rear seats, a leash and a Vienna straw collar to always walk in style, and a blanket padded with Zerodown wadding material that's able to reproduce the softness of the feather bow to insert in the trunk – just to name a few.

We aren't aware of pricing but being couture and from Italy we wouldn't expect it to be cheap.

If you were driving on the Autobahn and spotted this odd-looking Fiat 500, you could be forgiven for doing a double take. That's where this bizarre vehicle was snapped, supposedly converted by a company called Ellenator.

The conversion is achieved by replacing the standard rear axle with a new one that relocates a pair of wheels just a few centimetres apart.

The new wheel layout is said to fit into a modified section of the cargo area, with the standard wheel arches replaced with sheet metal.

For almost $10,000 the company converts cars such as the Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Fabia into vehicles that can be legally driven by 16-year-olds in Germany, as they are classified under the "three-wheeled" vehicle class – even though this one clearly has four.

It might not be your usual classic car, but this 2001 Jeep Cherokee (XJ) has just undergone a major restoration in the US.

In addition to a new coat of paint, it has been fitted with LED headlights, a new roof rack, and 16-inch Das Moab wheels wrapped in beefy off-road tyres.

A new suspension set-up includes a three-inch (76mm) lift with new dampers, coils, and leaf springs – as well as new lower control arms, sway bar links, and a heavy-duty steering stabiliser.

Under the bonnet, the 4.0-litre petrol inline-six also had an update.

Proving beauty is in the eye of the beholder, it's now estimated to be worth $53,000.
