The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pick-up will receive a mid-life upgrade next year, with a new look, more tech and a new ZR2 grade – but prices are
Unveiled by Chevrolet the US nine months ago, the facelifted Silverado 1500 is due in Australian showrooms in the second quarter of next year (April to June) – three years after the original's launch – with a restyled front fascia, reworked interior, and a flagship ZR2 off-road grade.
"Re-manufactured" from left- to right-hand drive in Victoria by the factory-backed General Motors Specialty Vehicles operation, prices will start from $121,000 plus on-road costs for the LTZ Premium – up $6010 over the outgoing model.
The $106,990 LT Trail Boss has been axed, and a new off-road model added for $124,000: the hardcore ZR2, pitched in the US half a step below the Ford F-150 Raptor, and as a direct rival for the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro.
All 2023 Silverado models benefit from a (subtly) restyled front fascia, with revised headlight clusters and new grille inserts, plus new 20-inch silver wheels for the LTZ Premium.
Headlining the upgrades is an overhauled interior, with a retooled dashboard now home to a 13.4-inch centre touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch widescreen instrument cluster in front of the driver.
Replacing an 8.0-inch infotainment screen and analogue dials, the new displays are the largest in the full-size pick-up class (by their diagonal measurement), exceeding the Ram 1500's 12-inch centre screen, and the Ford F-150's dual 12-inch screens.
Other features fitted to the $121,000 plus on-road costs Silverado 1500 LTZ Premium include black leather trim, a head-up display, digital rear-view mirror, adaptive cruise control and an electronic gear shifter.
New for 2023 is the ZR2, an off-road flagship model with similar intentions to America's Ford F-150 Raptor or Toyota Tundra TRD Pro – though without the power or extreme upgrades of the Ram 1500 TRX.
Upgrades over standard Silverado models include 18-inch wheels with 33-inch mud-terrain tyres, front and rear electronic differential locks, DSSV dampers from racing specialist Multimatic, and a "high-approach" steel front bumper.
Visual differences include unique wheel arch flares, a gloss black bonnet insert, black grille, and 'flow-tie' Chevrolet badge, plus black and grey leather upholstery.
All models retain a 6.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol V8 with 313kW and 624Nm, sent to all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 range is due in Australian showrooms in the second quarter of 2023 (April to June), with full specifications to be confirmed closer to launch. Customers can pre-order now through GMSV dealers.
Based on past sales data, approximately 1300 to 1400 pre-facelift Silverado 1500 pick-ups will be converted locally, before the facelifted model arrives.
