2023 Audi E-Tron GT arrives in Australia, wait time at 14 weeks

After multiple production delays, Audi's first electric sedan is finally here. However, buyers who order today face a long wait.

Almost 12 months after the order books opened, the Audi E-Tron GT electric sedan has arrived in Australia.

The Audi E-Tron GT was unveiled in February 2021 ahead of planned Australian deliveries in the second half of the year – before being pushed to early 2022 and then stretching to early 2023.

Audi Australia commenced taking orders for the high-performance electric car in February 2022 – priced from about $180,000 plus on-road costs – ahead of deliveries due in September 2022, but production delays saw arrivals blow out to January 2023.

Customers who order today can expect a further wait. Audi Australia estimates there is a wait time of about three-and-a-half months for new E-Tron GT orders.

“For E-Tron GT (the wait time is) around 14 weeks, depending on (equipment and model grade),” Audi Australia managing director Jeff Mannering told Drive. “The bulk of (the delay) is logistics, getting from one side of the world to the other.”

Despite the delayed launch, Audi says it is happy with the number of orders received.

While declining to confirm how many orders Audi has taken, Mr Mannering said: “We’re quite pleased with the number of orders we've got because there's been a bit of a time from the … official announcement that it was coming.

“So there's been a lot of time for people to think about it and now it's good that the cars are here so they can touch it and feel it and drive it. So it's going okay; it's probably where we expected.”

The Audi E-Tron GT arrived in Australian showrooms last month with a choice of two model grades.

The ‘entry-level’ E-Tron GT starts at $180,200 plus on-road costs. It’s powered by a pair of electric motors, combining for 350kW and 630Nm in normal driving, increasing to 390kW in 'boost mode' – good for a 4.1-second 0-100km/h time, and up to 488km of claimed WLTP driving range.

The performance-oriented Audi RS E-Tron GT is also powered by a pair of electric motors, but with outputs boosted to 440kW – or 475kW on overboost – and 830Nm. Its 0-100km/h claim sits at 3.3 seconds.

Audi claims a driving range of between 433-472km on the WLTP testing cycle. It is priced at $248,200 before on-road costs and options.

Despite the $68,000 difference in price for the high-performance RS model, Audi Australia National Product Manager, Matthew Dale, told Drive more than half of E-Tron GT customers were opting for the RS variant.

“RS is more favourable in terms of the split, over 50 per cent,” said Mr Dale. That is said to be in line with other Audi models with RS versions, with Mr Dale confirming Australia is the sixth-largest customer for Audi RS models globally.
