2022 McLaren 765LT Spider revealed
McLaren's newest 'Long Tail' drop-top launches from £310,500 (AU$590,000).
The track-oriented 2022 McLaren 765LT Spider convertible supercar has been revealed, with less weight and more power than the 720S Spider on which it is based – and mirroring the upgrades to the 765LT coupe revealed last year.
A mid-mounted and retuned 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine now sends 563kW and 800Nm to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, allowing the low-slung 1388kg supercar to launch from 0-100km/h in a claimed 2.8 seconds on the way to a top speed of 330km/h.
A standard-fit carbon-fibre aerodynamic package – comprising a large front splitter, underfloor diffuser, and active rear wing – increases downforce by 25 per cent over the 720S convertible, according to McLaren.
Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres wrap around 10-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels at the front and 20-inch alloys at the rear, while stopping power comes via carbon-ceramic discs with six-piston Monobloc callipers. This setup allows the vehicle to decelerate from 100-0km/h in just 29.5 metres.
Inside the cabin, carbon-fibre bucket seats are trimmed in Alcantara, as is the steering wheel, dashboard, and door cards.
An 8.0-inch centrally-mounted touchscreen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto provides infotainment functions.
The door pockets – as seen in the McLaren 720S – are swapped out for mesh netting to save weight, while the floor carpets, air-conditioning system, and speakers have also been omitted in the name of lightness (although the latter two can be re-specified at no extra cost).
The retractable hardtop is controlled electronically, and can be raised or lowered in just over 10 seconds while travelling at speeds up to 50km/h.
Just 765 examples of the McLaren 765LT Spider are slated for production, with all 2021 build slots reportedly already filled.
The car starts from £310,500 (AU$590,000) in the United Kingdom. Drive has contacted McLaren in Australia for local pricing, and this story will be updated when more information becomes available.
