A limited number of 2021 Aston Martin V12 Speedsters will pay homage to Aston’s racing history by adorning a tribute DBR1 paint specification.

The British marque will make the special paint scheme available to all 88 V12 Speedster examples, meant to commemorate the Aston Martin DBR1 which is the most successful racing Aston of all time.

The DBR1 won both the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans and 1000km of Nurburgring in the same year, as well as an array of other historic events with drivers including Sir Stirling Moss and Carroll Shelby behind the wheel.

Incorporating a number of elements from the vintage racer, the upcoming V12 Speedster DBR1 specification will come painted in Aston Martin Racing Green, feature Clubsport White striping and roundels, a Satin Silver anodised grille with accentuated surrounding lipstick, and Conker saddle leather interior. All these design additions hint at period attributes of the famed DBR1 race car.

It will also ship with a set of Satin black diamond trim 21-inch centre lock wheels, while both driver and passenger each score an Aston Martin Racing Green helmet which can be stowed below the integrated roll hoops.

Aston Martin has outlined no changes to the V12 Speedster’s powertrain, meaning the DBR1 specification will be motivated by a 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12. The powertrain sends 515kW and 735Nm to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission, which allows the V12 Speedster to sprint from zero to 100km/h in 3.4 seconds and run on to a 319km/h top speed.

No doubt, that’s a great deal faster than the original Aston Martin DBR1. The DBR1 was fitted with a 2.9-litre inline-six-cylinder engine that could output 186kW and had a 241km/h top speed. Respectable performance in period, though it would certainly get blown away by contemporary racers.

Deliveries of Aston’s V12 Speedster are slated to begin half way through 2021, with the order books now open for the special DBR1 specification. Pricing has not been announced, though expect a premium over the base V12 Speedster’s £765,000 (AU$1.37 million) price tag.
