2014-15 Ssangyong Stavic recalled
Ateco Australia has issued a recall notice for 340 examples of the Ssangyong Stavic people mover, over concerns about worn ball joints.
The company says the joints could fail if cars are “operated for extended periods of time without any inspection or repair”.
According to Ateco, the issue specifically affects cars with high mileage or vehicles that have faced “specific severe conditions”, and could lead to the ball joints failing, causing “loss of control of the vehicle”.
Although no further details were available, extreme conditions included overloading the vehicle or driving on rough, unsealed roads for long stretches in a previous Ssangyong recall.
The recalled Stavic units were built between 2014 and 2015. A VIN list can be viewed here.
Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by mail. When the recall notice arrives, the ACCC says owners should contact their Ssangyong dealer to have the left- and right-hand lower arm ball joints replaced.
