UPDATE, 19 May 2021: The 2021 Mercedes-Maybach S680 has been revealed, ahead of first Australian deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2021. The Maybach S580, featured below, won't come to Australia, with its role instead filled by a Mercedes-Benz S580L model due later in 2021. Mercedes could be world's first car-maker with Level Three autonomy

The inventor of the motor car – Mercedes-Benz – is poised to take the first big step into the next level of autonomous driving, and has likened the achievement to planting a flag on the moon. Speaking to media ahead of the unveiling of the 2021 Mercedes S-Class sedan, the global boss of the German brand, Ola Kallenius, said the company was about to roll out "Level Three" autonomy, pending government approval.

2021 Mercedes-Benz EQA spied

The Mercedes-Benz EQA SUV has been spied charging in a German garage, revealing hints of its GLA-derived design. The all-electric crossover will be built on Mercedes-Benz's MFA II platform, and is expected to offer an electric range around 482km when it launches in 2021. As with the EQC and GLC, the EQA appears to share its basic silhouette with the GLA – at least, if our recent prototype drive is a guide – but will likely differentiate itself with unique trim and lighting elements.
