Gumpert on the brink of collapse as investor withdraws funding: report
…
Niche German supercar maker Gumpert is reportedly on the brink of collapse.
The Altenburg-based manufacturer – famous for producing the Nurburgring-blitzing Gumpert Apollo – announced overnight the investor that was to save the company from insolvency has pulled out of the deal, leaving Gumpert without financial backing.
Reports out of Germany suggest Gumpert has been forced to lay off its remaining 19 workers as a result, with funding and orders for new vehicles both drying up.
The volume may have already been turned up to 11, but that hasn’t stopped German manufacturer Gumpert from cranking out two even louder and more mental versions of its Apollo hypercar.
The Gumpert Apollo R and the Gumpert Apollo Enraged are the latest ultra-performance models to hit the Geneva motor show floor.
Gumpert has released another teaser image of its upcoming new supercar, called the Gumpert Tornante. The Tornante will be unveiled in full detail at next week's Geneva Motor Show.
As previously reported, the Tornante will feature a 4.2-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 515kW of power. The engine will also be matched up to a TT40e sequential transmission with paddle shifters. Like the previous benchmark model, the Apollo, the Tornante will feature a fully-adjustable suspension package.
