2019 Porsche Macan review
  • four-cylinder surprisingly satisfying; sublime handling and ride, even better than before; performance feels better than the numbers suggest; new infotainment screen is a big plus as is Apple CarPlay; plenty of space and practicality for a family of four; decent levels of standard kit - just don't look at the options list;
  • Front on, it's hard to pick it as new; needs the optional Sports Exhaust on both Macan and Macan S to match performance;

It was the benchmark before this update and no surprise it's still the benchmark SUV, blending sublime ride comfort with sports car-like handling.

2019 Hyundai Tucson Elite 2.0 GDi 2WD review

There's a lot to like about a front-wheel-drive Tucson with luxury levels of kit and a relatively reasonable price tag. But the naturally aspirated petrol engine with its six-speed auto transmission, well, that's another matter entirely.

Mark Webber: 2019 Porsche 911 comparable to 919 Le Mans race car

Mark Webber may not be piloting Formula One cars these days, or even Le Mans prototypes, but if you’re a potential Porsche buyer or one of the marque’s many repeat customers, that can only be a good thing given his involvement in new car development with the iconic German brand, including the new 911...

Porsche has launched the eighth-generation of its iconic 911 in Los Angeles after more than four years of development, a process comprising some serious challenges according to the man dubbed 'Mr 911'. August Achleitner, vice president of the Porsche 911 and 718 product lines, detailed some of the trickier parts of developing an all-new take on the world's favourite rear-engined sports car...

Storied Italian carmaker Ferrari revealed its latest track-ready supercar the 488 Pista this week at its new state-of-the-art service centre in Roseville, Sydney. Think of the 488 Pista (meaning ‘Track’ in Italian) as the legitimate successor to the much lauded 458 Speciale, only this car takes the 'track-ready' approach to a whole new level – boasting more race-to-road technology than ever before...

2019 Alpine A110 review: Targa High Country

It's been 41 years since we last saw a new Alpine A110 roll out of the factory in Dieppe, but it's been worth the wait, because this just may be the most enjoyable car I've driven in years. Margeit was right about that.

Less than 12 months after the launch of the all-new BMW M5 comes a more powerful version called the Competition, only you'll struggle to pick the differences, at least on track. It's also thirty-grand more expensive.

Porsche 911 GT2 RS and The Scarborough Hotel

Porsche 911 GT2 RS and The Scarborough Hotel

There are few cars that conjure up fear and trepidation like the latest incarnation of the Porsche GT2 RS. For starters, it’s the most powerful production-series 911 ever built and harnessing massive reserves of turbo-driven grunt – like 515kW and 750Nm of torque from its flat-six. It’s a potent bit of kit and clearly the kingpin of the brand’s production-series range...

Jaguar Land Rover production stoppage caused by perfect storm of global issues

British-based carmaker Jaguar Land Rover will this month stop the production lines at its plant in Solihull for two weeks, in response to weakening demand for their vehicles in China. Like most prestige carmakers operating in China, Jaguar Land Rover last month suffered a 46.2 per cent sales dive in its single largest market, and where it owns a major factory used to produce cars with Chery...

Land Rover Defender: Next-gen to be more premium, more capable

Land Rover will launch its next-generation Defender next year, 71 years after founder of The Rover Company, Maurice Wilks, created the iconic first-generation car. The company showed the DC100 concept (pictured) at the 2011 Frankfurt motor show, but went back to the drawing board after being rejected by Land Rover owners and enthusiasts alike...

2019 Jeep Wrangler review: Tacos, burgers and surfboards in SoCal

One of the world’s most closely guarded secrets is when the next Land Rover Defender might appear and what it will look like. No-one seems to know anything, not a single solitary thing. Not when, what, where or how. Nothing. For years, it’s been a total information lockdown, as if Britain’s domestic spy agency, MI5, is running the communications department up at Land Rover’s HQ in Gaydon – at least as far as the next-generation Defender goes...

Porsche Taycan: Why 20,000 per annum mightn't be enough

Porsche plans to build 20,000 Taycans each year, with deliveries to Europe and the USA commencing late 2019. Early indications are that production run may fall short of demand. While refusing to be pinned down on actual numbers, a representative from Porsche Australia told CarAdvice they'd received hundreds of ‘expressions of interest’ before anyone has actually seen the car, let alone driven it...
