VFACTS June 2021: Ram and Chevrolet US pick-ups set sales record in Australia

Sales of US pick-ups from Ram and Chevrolet reached a new high in June 2021, with almost 900 examples reported as sold across both brands.

The Ram tally of 581 sales in June 2021 was the second highest result for the brand, falling just shy of its record of 604 sales set in June 2020.

However, when sales of Ram and Chevrolet are combined, both brands elevated US pick-ups in to a new high.

Chevrolet reported 315 vehicles as sold in Australia in June 2021, the highest result recorded for the brand since its return to local showrooms in 2018.

Chevrolet delivered more than one-third of its entire tally for the first half of this year (902 vehicles reported as sold) in just one month.

Ram ranked 27th on the June 2021 sales charts just behind Jeep and ahead of popular brands such as Mini and Porsche.

Chevrolet ranked 33rd on the June 2021 sales charts ahead of brands such as Peugeot, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo and Maserati.

June is historically the biggest month of the year for new-car sales as businesses aim to take advantage of tax breaks in the lead up to the end of the financial year on 30 June.

However, last month was a comparatively weak June – down 13 per cent versus the June five-year average of 127,000 deliveries from 2015 to 2019 (prior to the pandemic), and 17.5 per cent lower than the record June result of 134,171 set in 2017.

As a sign of our changing taste in cars, in June 2021 utes filled the top three spots in the monthly sales tally for the second time in Australian automotive history.
