2022 Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro unveiled: Production track special debuts as first road car deliveries approach

Aston Martin's F1-inspired hypercar gets even faster, with a new track-only AMR Pro variant set to lap Le Mans faster than a competition Le Mans Hypercar racer.

The fastest version of the Formula One-inspired Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar, the track-only 2022 Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro, has been revealed – again.

While keen-eyed readers will be quick to note that a Valkyrie AMR Pro was revealed at the Geneva motor show over three years ago, Aston Martin says the 2018 show car was an 'original design proposal', with the car debuting here the 'production' model set to reach customers late in 2021 – and it promises to offer even more racecar DNA than before.

Whereas the 2018 model was based primarily on the road-going Valkyrie, the new AMR Pro is said to build on the "pure, race-optimised chassis, aerodynamic and powertrain developments" of the Valkyrie's on-ice Le Mans hypercar project.

Better yet, the British car maker claims the new AMR Pro's lack of racing regulations to adhere to will allow it to lap the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit in three minutes and 20 seconds – an estimated 10 seconds faster than cars in the 2021 Le Mans Hypercar series the competition-spec Valkyrie would compete in.

Developed in partnership with Red Bull Advanced Technologies, the track-only special employs a revised version of the 'regular' Valkyrie's carbon-fibre chassis, with a 380mm-longer wheelbase, and wider front and rear tracks by 96mm and 115mm respectively.

Aston Martin claims the AMR Pro develops twice as much downforce as its road-legal equivalent, thanks to an overhauled aerodynamics package including a larger front splitter, extended front quarter panels, a roof-mounted 'sharkfin' and a dual-tier rear wing, all of which allow the car to achieve more than 3.0g of lateral acceleration.

Other aerodynamic highlights include unique alloy wheels, extended F1 'barge board'-like lower aerodynamic elements, and an enlarged rear diffuser.

Powering the AMR Pro is an evolution of the standard Valkyrie's 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated Cosworth V12, developing 746kW, and capable of revving to 11,000rpm.

However, the track-focused variant loses its road-legal sibling's hybrid system, with other lightweight touches including additional carbon-fibre body panels, Perspex side windows and windscreen, and carbon-fibre suspension wishbones.

The brand claims the aforementioned upgrades translate to "track performance approaching that of a Formula One car".

"The entire Aston Martin Valkyrie programme has been an extraordinary adventure in engineering. As an expression of the passion and expertise that can be found within Aston Martin and its closest technical partners, Valkyrie AMR Pro is a project beyond compare, a true ‘no rules’ track-only version," said Aston Martin CEO Tobias Moers.

First deliveries of the 2022 Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro will commence in the fourth quarter of 2021 (October to December inclusive), with 40 cars to be built, all in left-hand drive.

Meanwhile, the first examples of the road-going Valkyrie will commence in mid-2021, with 150 examples to be built.

That 40-strong AMR Pro production count is in addition to two prototypes, which will begin real-world testing "imminently" – following "extensive" virtual development work in simulators – with help from Aston Martin's Formula One drivers Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll.

All Valkyrie owners – of both road-legal and track versions – will be offered a "bespoke track day experience" at one of a handful FIA-certified circuits globally, which includes track and pit lane access, guidance from trained instructors, exclusive fireproof racewear and a VIP dinner.

Buyers will also be offered a range of "Art of Living" experiences that will see customers cover "some of the most challenging and dynamic roads" globally.
