Nissan stock shortages on X-Trail, Navara, Qashqai, Patrol and Juke

Strong demand combined with production restrictions due to a global shortage of semiconductors has pushed out the waiting times for key Nissan models.

Nissan dealers are facing lengthy delays on some of their most popular models, including the X-Trail SUV, Navara ute, Patrol four-wheel-drive and Juke city hatch.

New customers who order one of these cars today will likely not take delivery until later this year or early next year, say multiple dealer sources.

Drive understands production of the Nissan X-Trail in May, June and July has been cancelled or severely cut back.

It’s the same story for the Nissan Navara ute, with production capacity cut or restricted over the same three-month period, which means longer delivery times for cars that are not already in dealer stock.

The Nissan Patrol 4WD has also been affected by the semiconductor shortage, however waiting times for this model have been exacerbated by higher than expected demand as more Australians plan to holiday at home amid international travel restrictions.

A statement from Nissan urged customers to talk to their local Nissan dealer for an update on waiting times.

Nissan says new car stock levels "are short of what they were pre-COVID, with the largest impact being available stock due to strong ... demand, and a significantly growing customer sold order bank. As a result, nearly all stock arriving is now fully committed to dealers in comparison to 12 months ago."

The Hyundai and Kia car brands are also affected by severe stock shortages, with most key models delayed by four to six months and some models pushed back 10 to 11 months.

For its part, the Australian Automotive Dealer Association (AADA) has pleaded with customers to be patient.

The head of the AADA, James Voortman, has previously told Drive: “We understand buyers are frustrated, but this is a global semiconductor shortage. Our advice is to get in the queue and stay in the queue. Our dealers will do the best they can to fill orders as fast as possible. The stock situation changes daily.”
