2022 Skoda Octavia Sportline revealed, Australian launch due early 2022

The 2022 Skoda Octavia Sportline has been revealed, ahead of its Australian launch from the start of 2022.

Slotting into the Octavia line-up between the standard Style and high-performance RS, the Octavia Sportline follows in the tracks of Skoda’s larger Kodiaq and Karoq Sportline models in pairing sportier exterior and interior styling with milder engines under the bonnet.

On the outside, the Sportline sees the regular Octavia’s grille, lower front air intakes, badging and lower rear valence finished in gloss black – the latter element featuring chrome trim – while liftback models gain a black rear lip spoiler.

Sportline badges feature on the front wheel arches, while a unique set of 19-inch black ‘Taurus’ alloy wheels are available.

Inside, Skoda says highlights include new sports seats wrapped in ThermoFlux fabric with integrated headrests, a fabric-trimmed dashboard, Piano Black trim inlays, a three-spoke steering wheel with Sportline badging, and ‘OCTAVIA’ illuminated sill plates. No interior images have been released, however.

European buyers can opt for an array of petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid or plug-in hybrid powertrains, however it’s expected Australian models will be powered solely by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, sending 140kW and 320Nm to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

However, the Sportline won’t debut the 140TSI petrol engine in the Octavia locally, with that role expected to be filled by a powered-up special-edition version of the existing 110TSI Style due later in 2021, likely early in the second half of the year.

A similar mechanical package is currently fitted to the Karoq 140TSI Sportline SUV in Australia, however the high-riding model employs all-wheel drive, and features an emissions-busting petrol particulate filter, the presence of which Skoda Australia has yet to confirm for Australian-delivered Octavia Sportline models.

Buyers can opt for Skoda’s Dynamic Chassis Control system as an option, comprising adaptive dampers with 15 firmness settings between Comfort and Sport.

The regular Octavia’s full suite of active and passive safety technologies are available, including autonomous emergency braking with support for intersections, a proactive occupant protection system and a centre airbag between the front seats.

The 2022 Skoda Octavia Sportline is expected to go on sale in Australia in 2022, with the special-edition model to switch over to become a Sportline model "from the New Year". Full pricing and specifications will be announced closer to launch.
