Buyers will get approximately 52 kilometres of all-electric driving from a liquid-cooled 16.6kWh battery, calculated using the updated WLTP test cycle.

The 90kW electric motor is complimented by a 119kW/250Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, for a total output of 189kW and 370Nm, taking the MG to 100km/h from a standstill in 6.9 seconds.

A full charge of the HS's battery takes around five hours using a 7kW wall charger at home, using a Type 2 plug.

Fuel economy is claimed at a combined 1.7 litres for every 100km driven, with emissions listed at 39g/km.

Inside, seats are trimmed in Bader leather upholstery with Alcantara trim and contrast red stitching, with heating and extra bolstering for the front occupants. Customisable ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof are all standard, and each row gets two USB chargers. Luggage capacity is listed as 1275 litres with the 60/40 split rear seats folded down.

The driver gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, while a 10.1-inch screen looks after infotainment duties, complete with satellite navigation, 360-degree cameras, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto capability, and a six-speaker audio system with surround sound.

MG also offers keyless entry and start, electric folding mirrors with heating, and a remote-controlled power tailgate.

The electrified SUV is fitted with the company's 'Pilot Active Safety Technology' suite, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot detection, semi-autonomous emergency braking, road sign detection, rear cross-traffic alert, semi-autonomous traffic jam assist, and auto high-beam control.

On the outside, the HS gets LED headlights and daytime-running lights, LED tail-lights with sequential indicators, and a set of 18-inch alloy wheels.

Four metallic colours are available: New Pearl White, Sterling Silver, Phantom Red, and Clipper Blue.

The 2021 MG HS Plug-In Hybrid comes with a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, with an eight-year/160,000km battery warranty.
