The man used a typical extension cord to charge his car, but says the cord may not have fitted tightly into the unique recharging socket which caused the short to occur. A fire then broke out damaging three cars and a truck trailer. No one was injured in the incident.
Soeren O. Ekelund, the man suspected to be responsible for the fire, apparently drives a Nissan that did run on gas but has since been converted into an electric vehicle.
The DFDS ferry operator announced a day after the incident that the ferry company will now no longer allow EVs to be recharged while on deck until further notice.
The official cause of the fire is still being investigated.
Could this be just the tip of the iceberg for all EV hazards? Or, could it just be that this particular car was somewhat homemade and needed firmer quality control development put into its design?
