Melbourne gets indoor drive-in cinema throughout January
The Victorian capital will be home to the country's first indoor drive-in, to be hosted at Jeff's Shed.
Australia's first indoor drive-in cinema has arrived in Melbourne.
The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre has teamed up with Village Cinemas to host a series of events called the 'MCEC Drive In(Door) Cinema', which will run until 26 January 2021.
The huge indoor space at the convention centre means each screening can accommodate up to 174 vehicles – rain, hail, or shine.
Moviegoers can use an app to order drinks, popcorn, choc tops, Nitro 196 Below ice creams, and Dough Truck doughnuts, all of which will be delivered to your window.
Audio is piped in via your car's radio, but the centre's PA speakers also play sound from the movie just in case there's an issue with your car stereo.
The only downside is that, unlike other drive-ins, you're not allowed to reverse park and sit in the back of your ute or wagon.
The In(Door) Cinema is Australia's 17th drive-in – and the fourth in Melbourne – which have all seen a surge in popularity since the beginning of the pandemic 12 months ago.
Classics such as Back to the Future, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and the original Fast and the Furious movies are all on the schedule.
